Is it worth renting a car in Mauritius?

Yes, absolutely. Renting a car gives you full freedom to explore the island at your own pace. Public transport is slow, taxis are expensive, and many beautiful places are easier to reach with your own vehicle.

Choose an economy or compact car, book early, and avoid last-minute airport rentals. At Liberta Car Rental, we offer budget-friendly options, no hidden fees, and transparent pricing.

For 90% of the island no — roads are well-maintained.

A 4×4 is only useful for off-road spots, mountain trails, and remote nature areas. Otherwise, a small car is perfect.

Driving is easy and safe once you get used to left-hand driving.

Main roads are in good condition. Some village roads are narrow, so just drive slowly and enjoy the island.

The cheapest and most flexible way is renting an economy car.

Buses are cheap but slow. Taxis become expensive if used daily

Yes. Liberta Car Rental provides airport pick-up & drop-off for your comfort. Pre-booking is strongly recommended.

Yes you are eligible to drive in Mauritius as a tourist if you have a valid driver’s licence.  

There are no minimum age requirements or driving experience requirement to rent cars from Liberta. 

Yes we offer pick-up & drop-off services at any location including the airport at additional cost.

To make car rental more accessible, we do not charge a security deposit for most vehicle models. However, on some vehicles there may be a security deposit applicable.

We charge a one-time service fee of Rs 500 (10 Euro).

This small fee helps make sure everything is ready and safe before you get your car.

It pays for the people who clean and sanitize the car so it’s super clean and smells nice, just like new! 🚗✨ It also covers the work done by the team who help you book the car, answer your questions, and make sure everything goes smoothly from the moment you make a reservation until you return the car.

Yes we provide long term car rental in Mauritius.  Please fill our request a quote form to get a quote or contact us for a custom rate.  

You can pay by cash (MUR, EUR, USD, GBP) or bank transfer, depending on the car model and deposit terms. Some models still require a refundable deposit via credit card pre-authorisation.

Yes. Self-driving is common and safe. Liberta provides 24/7 roadside assistance, and insurance covers both driver and passengers. Drive on the left-hand side and follow local traffic rules.

Yes. Liberta allows pick-up and drop-off at any location in Mauritius, including the airport, for an additional fee.

What insurance options come with car rentals in Mauritius?

The base rental includes comprehensive all-risk insurance that covers driver, passengers, theft, fire, and flood. Exclusions include tires, windows, mirrors, and key replacement. Optional premium coverage (SCDW) may also be available.
